Should an insured become totally disabled, application may be made to the insurance carrier for waiver of premium benefits. This would allow for the continuation of coverage without further premium payments until age 65 or until the insured is no longer disabled. The amount of coverage will continue at the level in effect at the time the waiver was granted. Application for waiver of premium must be made within a year of the first day of disability.
The insurance carrier may require periodic proof of the continuance of total disability at any time but not more than once a year, and will have the right to designate their physicians to conduct the examination, if required.
If application for waiver of premium is denied by the insurance carrier, an individual may request continued participation in the group insurance plan with self-payment of the necessary premiums.
