The CPP pays a monthly pension to teachers who have contributed to the Plan and are disabled. Teachers, must apply in writing as soon as they believe a serious long-term disability prevents them from working regularly at any job or, if unable to apply, another person may apply on the teacher’s behalf. Teachers should make an application for CPP disability benefits regardless of whether they are in receipt of sick leave benefits or Income Continuance Plan benefits. Application kits can be obtained from a Human Resources Development Canada Income Security Program office.
